Hulu subscribers will have to pay an additional $1 per month for on-demand streaming. Pricing on Live TV or Disney bundles will remain the same.
Hulu started informing subscribers on Tuesday that base-plan subscribers will be experiencing a price increase starting October 8. Prices for both ad-supported and ad-free programs will increase from $5.99 to $6.99, and $11.99 – $12.99 respectively.
Variety points out that the Hulu’s first price hike in nearly three years marks the debut of Hulu’s no-ads tier. It’s also the first price hike in almost three years for Hulu’s ad-supported Video-on-Demand package.
Subscribers to Hulu + Live TV won’t see an increase in price. Their plans will continue at $64.99/month without ads or $70.99/month. Those who subscribe to the ad-supported Disney Bundle, which includes Disney Plus and ESPN Plus, will continue to pay $13.99 a month, as well.
This price rise may encourage more people to subscribe to Disney Bundle. It offers 36% off if you buy all three packages together.
Apple TV+, which launched in November of 2019, still remains one of the cheapest streaming options available to consumers. New Apple TV+ subscribers get three months free of charge if they purchase a new Apple TV+ device. A 7-day trial is available for new subscribers who do not have Apple TV+ devices. Apple TV+, movies, and documentaries are available for $4.99 after the trial ends.
