Fortnite fights its way back to iOS, without the App Store

In the midst of Apple’s continuing legal battle with Epic Games, Microsoft is bringing Fortnite back to the iPhone and iPad.

On Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming platform, you can now play Battle Royale. Safari on iPhone and iPad can play it, too.

A free-to-play game is the first to be made available on Xbox Cloud Gaming, according to Tom Warren of The Verge. As part of the Epic vs. Apple legal battle, newly discovered documents suggest that Epic was the one keeping Fortnite from being made available on Microsoft’s Xbox One platform.

The fact that Xbox Cloud Gaming isn’t available in the App Store owing to Microsoft and Apple conflicts is a significant backdrop here.

Instead, iPhone and iPad users can use Safari to access the service. Microsoft has made considerable enhancements to the service since it was first introduced, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

If you want to play Fortnite on your iPhone or iPad, there is an alternative option. Aside from Nvidia’s GeForce Now cloud gaming service, you have two options to play Fortnite on iOS if you prefer one platform over the other.

Even if Fortnite returns to the App Store, Apple and Epic Games‘ legal struggle is expected to continue for many years to come. Despite Apple’s description of the conclusion as a “resounding triumph” for the App Store, both businesses plan to appeal the decision.

According to Microsoft’s statement, Xbox.com cloud gaming is supported on iPhone and iPad devices running iOS 14.4 or higher. Additionally, a 10Mbps Internet connection and a Bluetooth or USB controller are needed to meet these criteria.

Microsoft’s website now offers a free trial of Fortnite on Xbox Cloud Gaming. The game does not require a membership or installation to play. Let us know what you think in the comments if you give it a whirl!
