Body temperature monitoring on the Apple Watch Series 8 is possible, depending on algorithm quality

The new body temperature sensor was initially reported for the Apple Watch Series 7 last year, but as we all know, this feature — as well as a full redesign of the Watch – did not make the cut.

According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Apple Watch Series 8 may have this sensor with one critical condition.

Kuo writes on Twitter that “Apple stopped body temperature measurement for Apple Watch Series 7 since the algorithm failed to qualify before entering EVT stage last year.

I think the Apple Watch Series 8 might measure body temperature in 2H22 if the algorithm meets Apple’s stringent standards before mass production.”

Keeping this in mind, Kuo’s assessment backs up reports from Bloomberg and the Wall Street Journal on the impending body temperature measuring sensor on the Apple Watch Series 8.

Because the wrist is not a common location for individuals to detect their body temperature, an accurate algorithm is more than required to make this sensor operate.

“The challenge in implementing precise body temperature measurement is that skin temperature quickly varies depending on outside environments,” explains Kuo. “A smartwatch can’t support core temperature measurement in terms of hardware, so it needs an excellent algorithm to work together.”

The expert also provides an illustration of what Samsung is up against. Contrary to prior media claims, I believe the Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 will not feature body temperature monitoring owing to algorithm constraints in 2H22.

Only time will tell whether the Apple Watch Series 8 will have a body temperature sensor. Here’s what we anticipate Apple to include in the next Watch model this year.
