Arizona residents may now link their driver’s license or state ID to Apple Wallet, allowing them to check-in at TSA checkpoints using an iPhone or Apple Watch.

While Apple continues to propose providing digital driver’s licenses to US states, Arizona has become the first to make the system available to its citizens.

We’re thrilled to bring the first driver’s license and state ID in Wallet to Arizona today,” said Jennifer Bailey, Apple Pay and Apple Wallet vice president, in a statement, “and provide Arizonans with an easy, secure, and private way to present their ID when traveling, with just a tap of their iPhone or Apple Watch.”

“We look forward to collaborating with many more states and the TSA to provide IDs in Wallet to users throughout the United States,” she said.

The functionality does not need an iOS upgrade. It is unknown if the capability works on iOS versions before to the most recent iOS 15.4, but Apple has enabled it.

While it is now only taking Arizona state ID, it looks that the capability is now available in Wallet for all US customers.

If a user is a resident of Arizona, they may open the Wallet, hit the Plus symbol, and then choose Drivers’ License or State ID.

They are then asked to scan both the front and back of the ID.

Apple Wallet can only be used at an undefined number of TSA security checkpoints at Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport at the time of launch.

Apple also said that the states of Colorado, Hawaii, Mississippi, Ohio, and Puerto Rico want to make the technology available to their inhabitants.

This is in addition to the seven additional states already announced by Apple.
