AirPlay 2 coming after all – Spotify backtracks

Spotify will support AirPlay 2 in the future after the streaming music service issued a correction on a representative’s claim development of the feature was being paused.

On Friday, a Spotify forum post was made regarding AirPlay 2. Spotify posted a Friday forum post regarding AirPlay 2 to clarify that the company was putting off adding support.

A Spotify representative suggested that the work on the addition stop due to compatibility problems. According to the representative, Spotify considered it a “bigger challenge that we won’t be able to complete shortly.”

On Saturday’s forum update, a response was posted. It apologized to users for any confusion.

This feature’s status was also changed from “Case Closed to” to “Live Idea.”

This forum post backtrack is just the latest in Spotify’s efforts to make peace with Apple Music. Spotify has been slow to introduce new features that are aimed at Apple Music users.

Apple granted third-party access in 2018 to AirPlay 2 support. Spotify claimed that it was unwilling to help Apple get the feature working in 2019. It only replied to Apple’s questions by saying, “working on.”
