The high-efficiency image file format, or HEIF for short, is growing in popularity and will appear more often on platforms that use this type of content.
The HEIC format has several advantages, including reduced file sizes and higher picture quality.
In many circumstances, though, users may need to convert HEIC to more common picture formats like JPG. Let’s look at how to convert HEIC to JPG on a Windows computer.
These days, there are more devices & operating systems than ever before. It’s always good to double-check that your images render correctly across all platforms.
If you want to ensure your pictures show up correctly on Windows devices and not just Macs, here is how to convert HEIC files over to JPG.
How to Convert HEIC to JPG on Windows?
To convert HEIC to JPG on Windows, we just need to use the Windows Photo App. HEIC extensions were added to the default Windows image viewer in Build 17123. Be sure to update Windows before continuing.
Open your File in the Windows Photo Viewer
This should be your default photo viewer and it should appear when you double-click an image.
2. Click Edit & Create
3. Click Edit
4. Click Save a Copy
We’re not going to make any changes here. We’re just utilizing this screen to convert the data.
Of course, if you want to make any changes to the image, such as cropping, rotating, or applying filters, now is the time to do so.
5. Choose your Save Location
The new file will be saved in JPG format. The original HEIC is also preserved and will not be overwritten. You may retain both files in the same folder since their extensions will be different.
The easiest method for converting HEIC to JPG is to use the Windows Photo reader. It doesn’t need any additional software, and anyone can do it.
However, let’s say you want more control over the conversion or the ability to convert in bulk. In this scenario, batch processing in an application like Adobe Photoshop can be a good option.
